Who are you, really?
Behind the masks. Behind the characters you play. Behind the limited self-image you may carry about yourself. What is it that lives beneath all of that?
Halloween is the time of year when the veil to the archetypal world feels especially thin. For a moment, we collectively step out of our everyday identities and into larger-than-life characters, images, and stories.
In this class, we will use the Halloween spirit of play as a doorway into a deeper question: What is here before we play any character, even our daily persona? And what is it like to see and be seen from that place? The answer to that question can point us toward the part of ourselves and others that is not broken and does not need to be fixed. This is at the heart of meditation: discovering something whole beneath the masks, roles, and stories we so often move through the world wearing.
This workshop will combine iRest Yoga Nidra, contemplative gazing, and partner inquiry. Gazing may include sitting across from another person, looking at a photo, or gazing at a flower. Inquiry may include asking and answering meaningful questions with another person, or exploring those same questions through journaling. You will never be required to participate in a way that does not feel right for you. Everything we do will include options, so you can calibrate the practice to your own comfort level.
You are encouraged to dress up for this Halloween class, but you absolutely do not have to :) Come in costume, come as yourself, or come somewhere in between. I will also bring a few witch hats if dressing up is not your thing but you still want to play a little. Everyone in attendance will receive a small ritual item as a token of thanks. All money I make from this event will be donated to Kaleidoscope Youth Center.
No meditation experience is needed. Everyone is welcome. Just bring yourself, your curiosity, and whatever part of you is ready to meet the question.
