*This event is open to everyone! Come celebrate Pride Month—whether you identify as queer, an ally, or are simply curious.*
"We’re all born naked, and the rest is drag." — RuPaul
This quote perfectly encapsulates the essence of both meditation and queerness — which are deep, embodied explorations into the nature of identity. This three-week series will guide participants to explore their own identities through the lens of both pride and meditative self-inquiry. The class will utilize iRest Yoga Nidra, journaling, and other contemplative practices to deepen the exploration.
Throughout the series, participants will delve into the following themes:
Shame and Pride: Pride month serves as a reminder of the significance of accepting and celebrating our true selves. Unfortunately, many of us are conditioned to feel ashamed of our identities. Through meditative practices, we learn to cultivate opposing emotions like pride instead of shame, which can guide us to transcend places where we feel stuck.
Exploring Identity: Who are we without our stories? The LGBTQ+ community has long understood that the expressions of our identities are merely roles we play. This class is about peeling back all of these roles and discovering who we are before we identify with our jobs, relationships, age, race, sexual preference and gender.
Coming Out: The process of coming out is not exclusive to queer individuals. It is the act of speaking the hidden secrets in our hearts, a journey that many of us undertake in different ways. Whether we identify as LGBTQ+ or not, we may carry secrets or shame that inhibit us from expressing our authentic selves. This class is an opportunity to summon the courage to look within, discover our truth, and hold it with loving awareness in our hearts.
This class is open to all people, not just those who identify as LGBTQ+. It is an invitation to know ourselves and practice ways to rest back into the truth of who we are, just as we are.
Participants will receive recordings of each meditation to practice outside of the session, as well as journaling prompts to further explore the themes outside of class.
